Rare & Desirable Retractable!

The Ford Skyliner Retractable was only the second mass-produced car in history with a retractable hardtop and the first series produced coupé/convertible to feature a roof composed of more than one segment. The trunk lid also consisted of two pieces — one segment took the place where other convertibles typically had a separate lid to cover the soft-top stowage compartment. Both the folding roof and trunk-lid are power operated through an exceptionally complex system comprised of seven reversible electric motors, four lift jacks, a series of relays, ten limit switches, ten solenoids, four locking mechanisms for the roof and two locking mechanisms for the trunk lid and a total of 610 ft of wiring. At its introduction, the Skyliner was the only true hardtop convertible in the world.

This prime example has benefitted from a transmission rebuild, along w/a complete service of its top mechanism by well-known expert Ken Berger Restorations. A recent service included a new fuel pump, carburetor rebuild and oil & filter change. This 64 year old Ford starts every time and runs like a champ. It's currently started and run on a weekly basis while awaiting its next caretaker.
